LA MADONNA DELLA MISERICORDIA. PIERO DELLA FRANCESCA

Towards the artwork: a laical procession

Location: Sala Alessi, Palazzo Marino, Milan
Date: 6 th December 2016 – 8 th January 2017
Client: Civita
Curator: Andrea Di Lorenzo

“To adapt the eye and the mind to understand the structure and the genesis of a masterpiece is the aim of the approaching path designed for the exhibition of “Madonna della Misericordia” at Palazzo Marino in Milano.
A narrative, meaningful itinerary, made of light and dynamism, which combines different heights and prospects studied to invite the visitors to face the painting, with its being part of the polyptych that encloses it and with its history. This process has been conceived as a sort of laical precession towards the aknowledgement of one of the most important paintings of Piero della Francesca. An approach, structured in four consecutive moments, which gradually reveals and contextualises the artwork, through dynamic and narrative sequences. All this is meant to lead the visitors to measure, know, observe, and get to the vis-à- vis, to the ‘nude and crude view’ of the painting, emphasized in all its value only by the light.

A simple and clear journey through different scenarios for unique and emotional experience inside the new Pan Tadeusz Museum in Wrocław/Poland.
The poem as a fil rouge through the entire exposition that connects different spaces, narrative figures that guide the visitor across the story and central elements that allows the knowledge sharing for individuals and groups. A new innovative and multimedial museum in the centre of Wrocław, the 2016 Capital of Culture.
An illuminated installation inside the museums courtyard indicates the heart of the museum – an original manuscript of the greatest national literature work – “Pan Tadeusz” by Adam Mickiewicz.
Inside, a system of light elements highlighting the existing historical architecture and like “characters in the poem” interact creating a memorable story.

From a simple and innovative design idea comes the exhibition system designed by Migliore+Servetto Architects for the Palazzo Mosca – Pesaro City Art Museum, to create fast, autonomous and flexible set ups.
“The narrative line”, this is the name given to this system, is composed of two metallic tracks – a common thread that connects the different exhibition areas following their perimeter – that contain the attachment system for the works of art, the display cases and the graphic supports, adaptable to the different exhibition materials.
The system also integrates the technological part, guaranteeing absolute potential and flexibility of use in time. The narrative line is generated, from room to room, by technological columns that support the graphic elements of identity in each room but that, at the same time, host all the useful elements to complete the functional needs of the exhibition such as control, security and information systems. It is, therefore, a mix of complete elements, that can be improved freely and doesn’t have any compulsory technical points.
Thanks to its flexibility it allows to build faceted narrations and can be easily renovated to offer, in each room, temporary initiatives and exhibitions in a constant update of the museum contents.
In the respect of the genius loci, a light and unifying system of dim-out of the windows underlines the architectural rhythm, hiding inside the air-conditioning plant and, at the same time, supplying an impalpable and suffused transparency of natural light.
The floor reproposes the monochromatic colour patterns coming from Pacchioni exhibition of 1936, guiding the visit of the rooms in succession in the long perspective.

PICASSO
Artworks from the Musée National Picasso in Paris at Palazzo Reale.

with Italo Lupi

19.09.2012

A light intervention inside Palazzo Reale, is the exhibition project designed by Italo Lupi, Ico Migliore and Mara Servetto. On one side it creates a great dialogue with the pre-existing architecture, on the other is supports the narration and use of the exhibition.
As a prelude to the exhibition, in the first rooms, long expository out of scale tables display a narration, both on paper and multimedia, about the historic exhibition of ’53 on Picasso in Milano.
The rooms that host the works of art are characterized by the presence of a continuous surface of white light, all over the perimeter external wall, that marks and guides the pathways and that is in contrast with the warm grey displaying walls: at the bottom there’s a continuous bench, that passes through each room, about 80 meters long, that allows to stop by and observe the works.
In the Cariatidi room, beyond the wing that hosts “Massacre in Korea”, high self-sustaining wings lead to an innovative multimedia representation about Guernica, with a strong but balanced spatial intervention, a sort of spyglass of the great projection.
Lighting project developed with Reggiani Illuminazione.
